NDLEA seizes 7.6m tramadol pills, 76 tons of cannabis

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has announced the successful uncovering of immense stockpiles of illegal drugs across multiple states, reporting the seizure of more than 7.6 million tramadol pills and over 76,273 kilograms of cannabis in recent intelligence-led operations nationwide.

According to the agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, officers in Delta State recovered a significant haul of narcotics on December 6th. Specifically, 3,874,000 tramadol pills and 252.2 litres of codeine syrup were seized from a warehouse located at Oko Market in Asaba.

In Imo State, operatives successfully intercepted 1.2 million tramadol tablets along the Onitsha–Owerri Road. The drugs were recovered from a vehicle driven by Kelechi Nwakocha, aged 35.

Moving to Adamawa State, a Toyota Hiace bus was intercepted along the Maraba–Mubi Road. This operation led to the seizure of 1,577,112 capsules of tramadol and Exol-5, which had been cleverly concealed inside bags of sandals and slippers. The operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects, Kabiru Buba (25) and Hamza Abubakar (32). Separately, another suspect, Mudansir Rabiu (27), was later apprehended along the Zaria–Kano Road with 197,000 pills.

In Ekiti State, NDLEA operatives conducted forest operations resulting in the destruction of massive amounts of illicit substances. They destroyed 14,654kg of skunk at Omuo-Ekiti and another 54,300kg in the Asin-Ekiti forests. Two suspects, Yusuf Iliyasu (50) and Okumu Chinedu (26), were taken into custody during these operations.

Ondo State also saw significant seizures as officers raided the Igoba Forest in Akure North. This raid led to the recovery of 2,483 compressed blocks and 247 bags of skunk weighing a total of 5,442kg. Five suspects were arrested in connection with this discovery.

In Edo State, a total of 447.5kg of skunk was recovered from two vehicles in Agho Forest. Additionally, 315.8kg of the substance was seized from a warehouse situated in the Isiefve community. Two suspects were arrested and taken into custody during the Edo State operations.

Babafemi stated that these widespread operations were successfully executed based on credible intelligence. He also issued a strong warning to drug traffickers, assuring them that the agency will continue to tighten the noose on their activities.

Babafemi said: “We will not relent in our efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks across the country.”
