Chinese hackers who infiltrated Verizon’s systems reportedly targeted the phones of United States Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, according to a report by the New York Times.
In response, investigators are currently assessing what communications, if any, were compromised during the breach.
The Trump campaign was informed this week that Trump and Vance were among several individuals, both within the government and outside it, whose phone numbers were accessed through the Verizon infiltration.
This incident follows a separate hacking event earlier this year, for which the U.S. Justice Department charged three members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps. Those charges were related to an attempt to disrupt the upcoming November 5 election
