Apple has launched a revamped iCloud app for Windows, aiming to enhance the onboarding and content syncing experience for iPhone or iPad users without a Mac.
The updated app, compatible with Windows 10 and 11, features a redesigned setup process for smoother onboarding and includes a syncing status indicator for various services, providing a clearer representation of downloaded or uploaded items.
Notably, users now have the option to employ a physical security key for signing into their Apple ID. The app also minimizes the frequency of sign-in prompts, improves photo-syncing performance with Microsoft Photos, and incorporates convenient shortcuts for easy access to other Apple services.
In September of the previous year, Apple had already revamped iCloud.com, introducing browser notifications for Mail and Calendar on PCs, a customizable home page with quick-action capabilities, and a slideshow view for photos.
The move follows Apple’s 2022 announcement of separate apps for iCloud, Apple TV, and Apple Music for the Windows platform. Last year, the company released preview versions of some apps, including Apple Music and Apple TV, as part of its efforts to phase out iTunes.
