Short video social media network TikTok, has released a number of new safety features for European users.
TikTok unveiled these features in an effort to better comply with impending European Union laws.
ByteDance, the company that owns TikTok, Google, and other major online platforms will be compelled to regulate illegal content on their platforms, prohibit some advertising practises, and exchange information with authorities under the EU’s Digital Services Act.
However, following TikTok’s voluntary “stress test” consent last month, EU industry director Thierry Breton declared that “more work” was required before the company could be considered fully compliant.
According to Breton, “TikTok is dedicating significant resources to compliance,”
The company unveiled additional compliance measures on Friday, including making it simpler for European users to report unlawful content, letting them off customised video suggestions, and eliminating targeted advertising for users between the ages of 13 and 17.
