OpenAI, the artificial intelligence lab, has introduced a new mode called Ultrafast, which it says is designed to significantly accelerate the performance of its latest and most powerful model, GPT-5.6 Sol.

According to the company, Ultrafast can process tasks up to 14 times faster than standard processing, generating as many as 750 output tokens per second.

Tokens are the individual pieces of text that large language models generate when responding to users.

“Until now, getting real-time speed typically meant choosing a smaller or more specialized model,” OpenAI said in the blog post on Thursday.

“Ultrafast points to progress in a new direction: more useful work per second.”

OpenAI is not alone in pursuing faster AI models. Competitors such as Anthropic have also introduced accelerated versions, including Claude’s Fast mode, although it does not offer the same level of speed that OpenAI is promising with Ultrafast.

OpenAI says the high-speed version of GPT-5.6 Sol can support a broad range of enterprise operations, including incident response, customer service, financial market analysis and e-commerce, among other business applications.
