YouTube announced on Monday the launch of Music AI Incubator, which will work with producers, composers, and musicians from across the industry to make decisions about how to proceed with AI.

“I’m incredibly excited about the opportunity of AI to supercharge creativity around the world, but recognize that YouTube and the promise of AI will only be successful if our partners are successful,” wrote YouTube CEO Neal Mohan, in an announcement.

As part of the program’s launch, YouTube is collaborating with Universal Music Group and its roster of artists, including songwriter and producer Anitta, entrepreneur, musician, composer, and producer Björn Ulvaeus, Columbian musician Juanes, producer Louis Bell, composer Max Richter, songwriter and producer Rodney Jerkins, singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash, songwriter and producer Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, and rapper, musician, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Drake.

In a nod to how it has historically dealt with the conflict between new technologies and remuneration, YouTube notes that it has “made massive investments over the years in the systems that help balance the interests of copyright holders with those of the creative community on YouTube.”

YouTube adds that it already has standards about technically altered content intended to deceive viewers, noting that confidence and safety are essential for this system to function.

YouTube claims it will provide more information about the exact technology, revenue prospects, and policies being developed for its new AI music system.
