YouTube, Fox strike deal to keep channels on platform

YouTube to tighten gambling content policies

YouTube and Fox on Friday announced a new distribution agreement that will keep Fox News, Fox Sports, and other Fox channels available on YouTube TV.

The deal follows a short-term extension both companies had earlier reached to avoid service disruptions for subscribers.

” We’re pleased to have reached a deal that preserves the value of our service for our subscribers,” YouTube said in a statement.

YouTube, owned by Alphabet, and Fox did not reveal the financial details of the agreement.

On Monday, YouTube said Fox was demanding fees “far higher than what partners with comparable content offerings receive.”

The dispute came shortly after Fox introduced Fox One, a standalone streaming service priced at $19.99 per month or $199.99 annually.

Amid the standoff, YouTube had warned that Fox Broadcast Network, Fox News, and Fox Sports could be removed from its platform by 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

YouTube TV, which has about 9.4 million subscribers, pays broadcasters like Fox for rights to stream their channels.

Fox carries major sports events including American football, Major League Baseball, and the World Series, which begins in late October.

YouTube TV’s base plan costs $82.99 per month and offers access to more than 100 live channels.
