X removes headlines from news articles

X, formerly known as Twitter, has started removing the headlines from link cards on the iOS app and the web.

As a result, all you will see is an image with the link’s domain name in the bottom left corner, which is simple to overlook.

Elon Musk’s efforts to encourage users to directly upload “long-form content” to the platform are included in the move. Musk essentially wants users to stay on the platform longer.

Given that Musk announced the change in an August post, the action actually shouldn’t come as a surprise. The removal of headline text from link previews, he claimed at the time, would “greatly improve the aesthetics.”

Not all platforms think differently about news and headlines, including X. By encouraging users to share links from all over the web, the Artefact platform, which was created by the co-founders of Instagram, hopes to transform the app into a discovery platform. In June, AI began being used to rewrite the titles of items that consumers believed to be clickbait.
