The Netherlands and the U.N. on Thursday, launched a project to assist in preparing state agencies in Europe to oversee artificial intelligence.

The project, carried out with assistance from the European Commission, was started before the AI Act, a comprehensive piece of legislation that is anticipated to control the use of AI in Europe, was passed.

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation will compile data on how European nations are currently managing AI for the project and create a list of “best practises” recommendations.

In order to communicate and meet with national working groups from all over Europe, including a first meeting on Thursday in The Hague, the Dutch agency for digital infrastructure will support UNESCO.

Although its 2021 ethical principles were not ratified by all 193 member nations, UNESCO has been a significant voice in discussions on AI.
