US-based firm launches gas program for boat drivers

In order to power passenger boats and ferries in Nigeria, a US-based firm called Blue Gas Marine has introduced compressed natural gas.

According to The PUNCH, the chief executive officer of Ril Hydrocraft Limited, Layi Solesi, the distributor of the cylinder, told reporters in Lagos on Wednesday that compressed natural gas is a game-changer.

Solesi asserts that “There are significant advantages to CNG for both marine and land transportation.”

Remember that the Presidential Compressed Gas Initiative was authorized by President Bola Tinubu in August?

The plan will lessen the impact of the elimination of petrol subsidies on Nigerians by lowering energy prices, according to Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, who announced the approval.

According to Solesi, “The goal of the event was to inform ferry or passenger boat operators about the existence of a solution that would guarantee that boats operating in Lagos and throughout the nation would use CNG.

“The US business Blue Gas Marine, the maker of this product, has us as its sole distributor. The purpose of the event is to inform ferry or passenger boat operators about a method that can guarantee that boats operating in Lagos and around the nation use compressed natural gas.

“As everyone is aware, CNG is the newest thing in Nigeria when it comes to lowering fuel prices and doing away with petrol and diesel. We are aware of the consequences of eliminating the petrol subsidy”, he said.

The Lagos State Waterway Authority’s general manager, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, had earlier said that “The initiative was commendable and that the importance of the stakeholders program could not be overstated.

“As you are aware, the loss of fuel subsidies has resulted in a rise in the price of gas, and most boats run on petrol. This implies that, in addition to gas and electricity, we also need to think about other fuel sources.” Thus, the LASWA head said, “It all comes down to planning. Without planning, we are doomed to failure.”

It was one thing, according to Emmanuel, “To present a fresh concept, but it would be a waste of time if the benefactors are not aware or understand the initiative. Thus, the forum for stakeholders was very crucial.”

The purpose of this is to inform people about this option and the ways in which it will benefit us the most. He said, “The government has set up an environment where we can plug this and make sure these alternatives are provided.”
