The National Commissioner of the Nigerian Data Protection Bureau, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, has been appointed to the Forbes Technology Council for 2023.
Nairametrics reported that the founder of the Forbes Council, Scott Gerber, announced the appointment and expressed the Council’s excitement to have Dr. Olatunji onboard.
The goal of Forbes Councils, he emphasized, is “to bring together proven leaders from every industry, creating a curated, social capital-driven network that helps every member grow professionally and make an even greater impact on the business world.”
Dr. Olatunji’s work as Nigeria’s Data Protection Ombudsman has elevated him to the forefront in developing regulations and frameworks that adhere to international standards, strengthening Africa’s and Nigeria’s place in the world of data protection landscape.
Olatunji, who has over 30 years of experience working in the public sector, promised to bring professionalism and a depth of knowledge to the Forbes Technology Council board.
“It makes me happy to be accepted for the Forbes Technology Council. It is again another affirmation of our modest efforts to guarantee that our nation is acknowledged as one of the world leaders in Data Protection compliance,” he said.
Dr. Olatunji is a doctoral geographer and planner who graduated from the University of Lagos. He is a PECB Certified Data Protection Officer and a Certified Public Private Partnership Specialist.
Having worked in a number of divisions since joining the National Information Technology Development Agency in 2002, Dr. Olatunji was promoted to director in 2014 and to acting director general in 2016.
He served as the Director of Government Development and Regulations at NITDA, where he managed a powerful team to deliver numerous initiatives on Nigeria’s digital transformation, prior to his appointment in February 2022 as the NDPB’s first National Commissioner of NDPB.
