Nigeria’s electricity consumers rose to 12.16 million In Q4 2025

The number of electricity consumers in Nigeria increased to 12.16 million in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to the latest Electricity Report released by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The report, published on Tuesday, showed that electricity customers rose by 130,000, from 12.03 million recorded in the third quarter of 2025, representing a 1.11 per cent quarter-on-quarter increase.

The NBS, however, noted that the figure reflected an 8.52 per cent decline compared to the 13.30 million electricity consumers recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.

The report stated, “The number of electricity consumers increased from 12.03 million in Q3 2025 to 12.16 million in Q4 2025, representing a 1.11 per cent increase.”

On metering, the bureau said the number of customers with prepaid or smart meters rose to 6.97 million during the quarter, up from 6.66 million in the previous quarter, representing a 4.58 per cent increase.

It added, “On a year-on-year basis, metered customers increased by 12.18 per cent from 6.21 million recorded in Q4 2024.”

Meanwhile, the number of customers receiving estimated bills dropped to 5.20 million in Q4 2025, compared to 5.37 million in the preceding quarter, indicating a 3.20 per cent decline.

According to the report, estimated customers also fell by 26.67 per cent year-on-year from 7.09 million recorded in the fourth quarter of 2024.

On revenue, electricity distribution companies (DisCos) generated ₦630.93 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025, up from ₦570.26 billion recorded in the previous quarter.

The NBS stated, “Revenue collected by electricity distribution companies increased by 23.75 per cent year-on-year from ₦509.84 billion in Q4 2024 to ₦630.93 billion in Q4 2025.”

The report also showed that electricity supply improved during the period, rising to 6,627.56 gigawatt-hours (GWh) from 6,158.52 GWh in the third quarter, representing a 7.62 per cent increase.

Compared with the same period in 2024, electricity supply also grew by 6.76 per cent, according to the bureau.

The quarterly electricity report assesses energy supplied, revenue generated and customer statistics across Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies.
