Uber on Wednesday announced plans to cut 10 per cent of its workforce as the ride-hailing company moves to streamline its management structure and reduce costs.

“The changes we’re making today are designed to do two things: make Uber simpler and faster, and create more capacity to invest in our future,” CEO Dara Khosrowshahi wrote in an email to employees

The company plans to maintain its previously announced commitment to invest more than $10 billion in autonomous vehicles over the coming years.

Uber’s shares rose nearly 2 per cent in morning trading following the announcement.

The company declined to disclose the number of jobs affected.

Uber had approximately 34,000 employees at the end of 2025, according to its annual filing.

Uber joins a growing number of companies seeking to flatten management structures, accelerate decision-making and improve operational efficiency.

Tech giants such as Google have made similar changes in recent years.

Khosrowshahi did not link the job cuts to artificial intelligence, despite AI being cited as a factor behind a recent wave of layoffs across the technology sector.
