Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, claims he is “ready today” but “not holding his breath” to challenge Tesla CEO and Twitter founder Elon Musk in a cage match.
The fight with the Tesla titan has been proposed for August 26th, according to a post made by Mr Zuckerberg on Sunday in Meta’s new social media platform Threads.
“Today, I’m ready. When he first challenged, I suggested August 26; however, he hasn’t confirmed. Not holding my breath,” the Meta CEO responded to Mr Musk’s tweet on the newly renamed “X” version of Twitter.
The head of Tesla and SpaceX said he was “lifting weights throughout the day” on Sunday to prepare for the fight.
Mr Musk stated that the fight would be “live-streamed on X” and that all earnings would be donated to a veterans’ organisation. Musk tweeted on Sunday, “Zuck vs. Musk fight will be live-streamed on X…All proceeds will go to charity for veterans.”
The CEO of Meta replied that “a more reliable platform” could be utilised “that can actually raise money for charity”—likely a reference to the fundraising functionality that Facebook and Instagram already have.
The idea for the cage match first surfaced when Mr. Musk made a joke about the world becoming “exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options” in response to a tweet about Twitter rival Threads. A Twitter user then playfully forewarned the Tesla CEO of his rival’s jiu jitsu training.
