Apple announced on Wednesday, that users of the iPhone 14 will have free access to the SOS emergency feature for an additional year.
Originally released a year ago, the function lets users send messages to emergency services and disclose their whereabouts via satellite from places without a network using Apple’s FindMy app.
Following its original introduction in the US and Canada, the service has been extended to 16 nations and regions.
Two years of free service will still be available to owners of the iPhone 15 lineup thanks to an agreement between Apple and satellite provider Globalstar.
Earlier this year, Apple also unveiled a roadside assistance function that enables its smartphone users to contact the American Automobile Association for assistance in the US via satellite.
