The Nigerian Economic Summit Group has emphasized the necessity for public and private sector stakeholders to support and ensure human capital development.
The Punch reported that the group said in a statement that doing this was essential to tackling Nigeria’s problems with brain drain and unemployment.
The chairperson of the NES 29 Central Organising Committee, Amina Maina, emphasized in the statement the need for the country figuring out a method to keep its top brains.
She said, “Everywhere you go in the world, you hear that Nigerians are the best people, whether in education, healthcare, the financial sector, or even in infrastructure. Our brightest minds must remain in the country, and we must find a means to retain them.”
“We are hoping that the private sector will be able to provide us with big ideas at NES 29 that will help us turn things around. From the public sector’s perspective, we seek a synergy that unites the public and private sectors in order to lower our unemployment rate, guarantee our young people have productive employment, and give them something to look forward to.
“We want to put Nigeria back on the right track by utilizing the human capital we have been endowed with. We have the smartest and brightest people, and with the correct structure, we can keep them here at home, so we should be able to take our place among other countries.”
The statement went on to say that topics covered at the summit would be high rates of youth unemployment and the exodus of highly skilled individuals.
