Gunmen abduct ex-power minister’s sister, twin children in Ibadan

The younger sister of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, along with her twin children, has been abducted by gunmen in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

According to The PUNCH, the abduction took place on Wednesday in the Challenge area of Ibadan South West Local Government Area.

A video obtained from the scene of the incident showed a red sedan that had sustained significant damage, including a shattered driver’s side window. Residents were seen gathered around the vehicle, examining the aftermath of the attack.

Eyewitnesses featured in the video identified the victim as Adelabu’s younger sister, referring to the former minister by his popular nickname, “Penkelemesi.”

One woman at the scene was heard saying the victim was the younger sister of “Penkelemesi,” while another resident added, “She is the last born of Bayo Adelabu, Penkele.”

Confirming the incident, one of Adelabu’s media aides, Femi Awogboro, disclosed that the victims were abducted by unidentified gunmen while travelling through the Elewura area of Ibadan.

“Adelabu’s younger sister, together with her twins, Peter and Paul, were kidnapped this morning by unknown gunmen at Elewura, Challenge, Ibadan,” Awogboro said.

He further explained the circumstances surrounding the attack, saying, “The family members were going out this morning from Elewura to link the expressway when they were attacked and whisked away by the unknown kidnappers.”

Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that he could not immediately confirm the report.

“I cannot independently verify this for now, but please hold on,” he said.

The latest abduction has heightened concerns over the security situation in Oyo State, coming amid a series of kidnapping incidents and violent attacks recorded across different parts of the state.

In May, more than 40 teachers and students were reportedly abducted during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area.

Similarly, an APC chieftain, Wale Oriade, was kidnapped in Ibadan in December 2025, further underscoring growing fears over the increasing wave of insecurity in the state.
