Amazon expands into weight-loss market with new GLP-1 access program

Amazon is expanding further into the fast-growing weight-loss market, announcing on Tuesday a new initiative designed to make access to widely used GLP-1 treatments easier.

The company said its primary care unit, Amazon One Medical, is introducing a GLP-1 management program that incorporates obesity treatment into standard medical care.

The program blends virtual and in-person appointments, prescription oversight, and pharmacy fulfillment, framing weight management as an ongoing chronic condition rather than a one-time prescription.

“Providing customers with fast, convenient medication access and clear, transparent pricing is integral to how Amazon Pharmacy is transforming the pharmacy experience,” said Tanvi Patel, vice president and general manager of Amazon Pharmacy, in the company’s press release.

“By expanding access to the latest GLP-1 medications with upfront, clear pricing, we’re making it easier for customers to get the treatments their health care providers prescribe and to stay on those medications because they are delivered reliably directly to patients,” Patel said.

Through Amazon Pharmacy, patients can obtain medications such as Wegovy from Novo Nordisk, along with newer oral GLP-1 treatments.

According to Amazon, insured patients may pay as little as $25 per month, while cash-paying customers can access oral options starting at $149 monthly.

For injectable therapies, including Wegovy shots and Zepbound from Eli Lilly, prices begin at $299 per month without insurance coverage.

Amazon said the pricing is broadly comparable to much of the existing market.
