Google Gemini surpasses 1b monthly active users

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced that the company’s Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, making it one of Google’s fastest-growing products.

Pichai disclosed the milestone in a post on X, noting that Gemini has become the 14th Google product to cross the 1 billion monthly active-user mark.

The rapid growth puts Gemini on par with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which reached 1 billion monthly active users in June.

Google has been expanding Gemini across its ecosystem, integrating the artificial intelligence assistant into products and services including Search, Workspace, Android and its standalone app.

The company has also continued to roll out new models and features, including Gemini 3.5 Flash, which Google says is designed to enhance coding capabilities and support autonomous AI-agent tasks.

Google also provided insights into how users interact with Gemini. About 63 per cent of users engage directly with the assistant through its voice feature, while Gemini now generates more than 150 million images each day, according to the company.

Gemini’s growth also extends beyond Google’s own ecosystem. The company said the chatbot now has more than 100 million active users on iOS.

The milestone comes shortly after Google’s Q2 2026 earnings call, where the company reported that Gemini had surpassed 950 million monthly active users.
