The Nigeria Immigration Service is deploying a dedicated Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom from August 10, 2026, to clear pending applications, enrol new applicants and process passport renewals for Nigerians living in the diaspora.

The NIS disclosed this in a post on its X page on Sunday.

Interior Minister Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo directed the deployment, tasking Comptroller-General of Immigration Kemi Nandap with sending the team from the NIS headquarters to work with the Nigerian High Commission in London during the exercise.

The intervention is available to applicants with pending passport applications, new applicants, and Nigerians whose passports have less than one year to expiry and wish to renew them.

Applicants are required to present completed application forms alongside proof of payment during the enrolment process.

The NIS said the intervention team will visit designated cities across the United Kingdom to conduct passport enrolment and processing, making the service more accessible to Nigerians in different parts of the country instead of limiting the exercise to London.

“The Intervention Team is scheduled to arrive in the United Kingdom on 10th August, 2026, and will work in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission to facilitate the processing and issuance of pending, new and renewal passport applications,” the statement read.
“As part of the exercise, the team will visit designated cities across the United Kingdom to conduct passport enrolment and processing, thereby enabling eligible applicants in different parts of the country to access the exercise,” it added.

The NIS advised applicants to await the official release of the detailed schedule before proceeding to any location.

The schedule will include the designated cities, dates, venues, enrolment times and other arrangements for the exercise.

The NIS confirmed that all its digital passport application channels, including the Contactless Passport Application System, remain fully operational throughout the intervention. Applicants can also continue to use the home delivery service if they prefer to have their passports delivered to them.

The UK intervention is part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to improve access to passport services for Nigerians living abroad. It builds on measures introduced in 2025 aimed at reducing the need for physical visits to passport centres.
