Investments in next-generation aircraft, sustainable aviation fuel, and advanced operational technologies enabled Delta Air Lines to save over 59 million gallons of jet fuel valued at more than $135 million in 2025.

Details from Delta Air Lines’ 2025 Difference Report, show that the carrier continues to record strong gains from its fleet modernisation programme, sustainability efforts, and safety enhancement initiatives.

This comes at a time when countries such as Nigeria are grappling with surging aviation fuel prices.

According to the report, Delta took delivery of 38 next-generation aircraft in 2025, with the new fleet offering 27 per cent better fuel efficiency compared to aircraft retired since 2019.

The airline said the modernisation programme is part of a broader strategy to connect people “to a more sustainable future of travel” while also enhancing operational efficiency.

Highlighting the impact of the initiative, Delta noted that it saved 59 million gallons of jet fuel in 2025, resulting in cost savings of more than $135 million.

The report stated, “59 million gallons of jet fuel saved in 2025, worth over $135m in cost savings.”

The airline explained that the savings were benchmarked against projected fuel consumption levels from 2019, assuming its current sustainability initiatives had not been implemented.

“Savings in comparison to fuel consumption in 2019, based on our projected fuel usage had we not undertaken these initiatives and excluding efficiency improvements from fleet renewal,” the report noted.

Beyond fleet renewal, Delta Air Lines said it strengthened collaborations through its Sustainable Skies Lab, partnering with five advanced fleet technology companies spanning multiple aircraft types and propulsion systems.

The airline also increased its adoption of sustainable aviation fuel, securing 23.4 million gallons in 2025—an 80 per cent rise compared with 2024 levels.

The development underscores broader industry efforts by major global carriers to cut carbon emissions and accelerate the shift toward cleaner aviation fuels.

In addition to its sustainability drive, Delta Air Lines said it continued to invest heavily in safety technology and operational resilience.

The airline noted that it has expanded the rollout of its FlightPulse platform, a digital tool designed to give pilots real-time operational and safety insights.

According to the report, FlightPulse converts raw flight data into usable information, allowing pilots to evaluate performance against standard operating procedures and detect potential risks before they develop into serious issues.
