Uber launches in-app hotel booking feature for US users

Uber users in the United States will now be able to book hotels directly within the app, as the company expands beyond ride-hailing into a broader lifestyle platform.

The new hotel booking feature was unveiled on Wednesday at Uber’s annual Go-Get event in New York City, where the company showcased several product updates.

At launch, users will be able to browse and reserve from more than 700,000 hotels worldwide, powered through a partnership with Expedia Group.

The collaboration is notable given that Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi previously spent 12 years leading Expedia.

Uber also said it will add vacation rental listings from Vrbo to the app later this year, further expanding its travel offerings beyond hotels.

To further boost sign-ups for its Uber One subscription, Uber said members will receive 20 per cent discounts on a rotating selection of 10,000 hotels booked through the app.

Subscribers will also earn 10 per cent back in Uber Credits on all travel bookings made via the platform.

“We’re no longer just an app for rides, or even two apps, or [a] family of apps for both rides and eats,” Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said during the company’s event.

“Uber is now an app for everything, where you can go, you can get and now you can travel,” he said.

The hotel booking feature, along with a new AI-powered voice booking tool and an expanded search function, were among several products unveiled on Wednesday that moved from concept to launch in just a few months.

Uber said the rapid rollout was made possible by “agentic AI” tools such as Cursor, which helped accelerate development and integration directly into the app.
