Uber lets customers return purchases without leaving home

Uber seeks funding for Robotaxi expansion operations

Uber unveiled a new feature on Friday that allows customers to return purchased items without stepping outside their homes.

The returns option, available through the Uber Eats app, is part of the company’s broader push to make its platform more “sticky” by expanding beyond ride-hailing and food delivery into additional everyday services.

There are some limitations to the new service, and a courier fee applies. Uber said the return fee is based on the courier’s time and distance.

Customers can only return eligible retail items bought through Uber Eats, and they must also follow each retailer’s specific return policy.

Participating stores currently include At Home, Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, GNC, Michaels, Pet Food Express, Pacsun, Petco, and Target, with Uber noting that more retailers will be added over time.

Uber has also introduced pricing restrictions for the service.

According to the company, only items with a retail price above $20 are eligible for return through the feature.

Customers can access the new feature by going to their order history in the app, selecting “Return an item,” and choosing the specific purchase.

The process is completed when users tap the “Return with a courier” option.

Some users may be attracted by the convenience of instant refunds, as well as avoiding the hassle of driving to a store, finding parking, and waiting in line.

While Uber has not previously offered retail return services, the company has increasingly expanded beyond its core ride-hailing and food delivery businesses, launching a range of new features aimed at broadening its app’s everyday utility.
