The Kaduna State Government has directed all residents to observe the February edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
The exercise is scheduled for Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The government stated that the exercise, set for February 28, 2026, forms part of ongoing measures to strengthen environmental sustainability. It also aims to curb disease outbreaks throughout the state.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, announced the details. He stated that all markets, schools, workplaces, motor parks, and other public places must remain closed during the stipulated hours.
“All markets, schools, workplaces, motor parks, and other public places are to remain closed during the exercise until 10:00 a.m.,” Maiyaki said.
He explained that the temporary restriction on movement is necessary to enable residents to clean their homes and surroundings without hindrance.
“The government reiterates its unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability, public health, and the maintenance of high sanitation standards across the state,” he added.
The Commissioner for Environment, Abubakar Buba, also commented on the exercise. He described the monthly sanitation exercise as a key component of the state’s preventive healthcare strategy.
“The monthly sanitation exercise is not merely a routine activity; it is a collective civic responsibility aimed at safeguarding public health, preventing disease outbreaks, and ensuring a cleaner and safer Kaduna State for all,” Buba stated.
He urged community leaders, market associations, transport unions, and all residents to ensure full compliance within their respective domains.
Buba warned that defaulters would face sanctions. “Defaulters will be liable to appropriate legal action in accordance with existing environmental laws and regulations,” he said.
He further appealed to citizens to cooperate with relevant authorities. He stressed that environmental cleanliness “remains a shared responsibility between the government and the people.”
