WordPress launches built-In AI assistant

WordPress.com, operated by Automattic, is introducing a built-in AI assistant, the company announced Tuesday.

The company said the features work directly within websites, allowing it to understand content and layout so users can make updates using natural language commands.

With this new tool, site owners can change layouts, styles, and other design elements simply by instructing the AI, with updates appearing instantly on their site.

Automattic notes that instructions don’t need to be exact prompts.

Users can give general directions such as “make this section feel more modern or spacious,” “brighten and bolden my site’s colors,” or “offer more clean and professional font options.”

The AI can also update your site’s layout, responding to instructions such as “add a contact page” or “place a testimonials section below this section.”

The company clarifies that this functionality is limited to block themes, so the assistant won’t be available for classic themes.

The WordPress AI assistant can also help update your site’s content, such as rewriting your bio to sound more confident or translating a section into another language.

Additionally, it can act as an editor, providing headline ideas, fact-checking, and other grammar and editing suggestions.
