Nigeria, UK to revise BASA agreement for enhanced

Nigeria and the United Kingdom have agreed to initiate the process of revising their Bilateral Air Services Agreement to align with changing trends in international air travel and enhance cooperation between the two nations.

This was disclosed in a statement share on Tuesday by Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

According to Moshood, the agreement was reached during a courtesy visit to the Minister by senior British Airways executives, led by Alan Campbell and Moran Birger.

According to the statement, the meeting, held in Abuja on Monday, focused on “strengthening bilateral aviation relations and addressing operational issues.”

A key topic of discussion was the pressing need to update the BASA to foster mutual growth, ensure fair competition, and create more opportunities for both British and Nigerian carriers.

Both sides stressed the importance of modernising the agreement to reflect recent developments in the global aviation sector.

The British Airways delegation also reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to Nigeria, highlighting its 90-year presence in the country and plans to celebrate the milestone in 2026.

The minister’s aide further noted that the discussions included improving passenger experience and ensuring uninterrupted operations amid ongoing upgrades at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

Keyamo commended British Airways for its long-standing service and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to providing a favorable operating environment for all aviation stakeholders.
