BlackBerry raises revenue forecast amid demand for cybersecurity services

Canadian tech firm BlackBerry Ltd. has raised its revenue outlook for the 2026 fiscal year, buoyed by sustained demand for cybersecurity services as cybercrime continues to surge globally.

The announcement, made Tuesday, pushed the company’s U.S.-listed shares up by 6% in after-hours trading.

The revised forecast projects total revenue between $508 million and $538 million, up from the previous guidance of $504 million to $534 million. BlackBerry also increased expectations for its secure communications segment, which supplies advanced security software to corporate and government clients. That unit is now expected to generate between $234 million and $244 million, compared to the earlier range of $230 million to $240 million.

Analysts note that cybersecurity remains one of the few sectors relatively shielded from broader economic uncertainties, with companies continuing to prioritize investments in data protection and threat management.

Despite the optimistic annual forecast, BlackBerry’s performance in the most recent quarter showed mixed results. For the quarter ending May 31, the company reported $121.7 million in revenue, slightly down from $123.4 million in the same period last year.

Revenue from its QNX embedded systems business—often used in automotive software—rose by 8.1% year-on-year to $57.5 million. However, the secure communications segment saw a 7.3% decline, falling to $59.5 million.

Founded in Waterloo, Ontario, BlackBerry has transitioned in recent years from its mobile phone legacy to focus on cybersecurity and software solutions. As online threats continue to evolve, the company’s strategic pivot appears to be gaining momentum in a security-conscious digital age.
