Apple is facing a lawsuit in federal court over alleged false advertising related to its delayed Apple Intelligence features.
The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court in San Jose, seeks class-action status and damages for consumers who purchased Apple Intelligence-capable iPhones and other devices. Plaintiffs argue that Apple misled customers by failing to deliver the promised AI capabilities.
“Apple’s advertisements [cultivated] a clear and reasonable consumer expectation that these transformative features would be available upon the iPhone’s release,” the complaint states. “Contrary to defendant’s claims of advanced AI capabilities, the products offered a significantly limited or entirely absent version of Apple Intelligence, misleading consumers about its actual utility and performance.”
The legal action adds to Apple’s challenges as it struggles to roll out its AI-powered features. According to a Bloomberg report on Thursday, CEO Tim Cook has reportedly lost confidence in AI chief John Giannandrea’s ability to execute product development.
