The Industrial Training Fund has announced that between 29 April and 10 May 2024, the screening of artisans for the Skill-Up Artisans Programme will take place.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by its Director General, Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun on Sunday, according to Nairametrics.
According to the statement, a screening exercise will be carried out in all Senatorial districts of the country as part of the first phase of the Skill Up Artisans initiative.
The statement called on all artisans to visit the nearest screening centres to take advantage of this opportunity.
The statement read, “The Industrial Training Fund ITF will be screening all artisans registered on its SUPA platform to select one hundred thousand (100,000) candidates who will be participating in the first phase of the Skill-Up programme SUPA.
“Screening of all artisans will take place in ann senatorial districts of the country from Monday 29th April and 10th May 2024.”
Recall that President Bola Tinubu frowned at the dominance of foreigners from neighbouring countries in Nigeria’s construction sector, as foreign welders, plumbers, and bricklayers, among others, are preferred to Nigerians because of their expertise.
The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and the ITF are partnering to promote SUPA, aimed at the standardization and licensing of training for artisans across the country.
The Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr. Doris UzokaAnitie had said earlier that the programme would focus on identifying and categorising artisans from different economic sectors to offer comprehensive training programmes which comply with Industry 4.0 standards.
