The Federal Government has declared that it will look into incidents of frequent aircraft cancellations and delays and may consider implementing restrictions on these matters.

The Punch reported that according to a statement from the government, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development,  Festus Keyamo, made this disclosure during a recent trip to Lagos’ Murtala Mohammed International Airport.

“We expect local airlines to be more effective and efficient, and we are willing to safeguard them. However, concerns about flight cancellations and delays will be investigated, and regulations will be enforced if needed,” he added.

The head of press and public relations for the ministry, Odutayo Oluseyi, emphasized the importance of using the new terminal effectively, stating that 60% of FAAN’s revenue comes from Lagos.

According to the minister’s statement, the new terminal includes 60 check-in stations and can accommodate a sizable volume of aviation traffic.

He claimed that the Federal Government of Nigeria has stated a desire to maximize the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria’s capacity to generate income.

Keyamo talked about the old terminal as well, saying it needed a total makeover.

The statement said that as a result, the minister has ordered all airlines using the old terminal to move their check-in desks to the new terminal.

The statement read, “The new terminal should be used optimally because 60% of FAAN’s revenue comes from Lagos.”

The minister also ordered owners to remove inoperable airplanes so that the apron could be expanded.

Keyamo was further quoted as saying that he would talk with the owners of any private hangars in the area about potential hangar relocation.
