Sony Group has disclosed that the company has sold more than 40 million PlayStation 5 consoles, since its launch in November 2022.

The gaming company attributed the feat to the easing of supply chain problems.

“It took months for supply chains to normalise so we could have the inventory to keep up with demand,” Jim Ryan, Sony Interactive CEO said in a blog post.

“Now PS5 supply is well-stocked and we are seeing that pent up demand finally being met.”

A record-breaking 25 million PS5 consoles will be sold this year, according to the Japanese tech and entertainment giant, setting a new mark for all PlayStation devices.

According to Piers Harding-Rolls, an analyst at Ampere Analysis, Sony’s most recent platform is closing the gap with the PS4 console.
