Microsoft’s Yusuf Mehdi, who leads its consumer marketing initiatives is set to take over the company’s Surface and Windows operations with the external PC makers and retail partners as product leader Panos Panay steps down.
According to Bloomberg, Panay is being hired by Amazon to lead the division in charge of the company’s Alexa and Echo products, taking over for David Limp, who has announced his intention to retire this year.
After over 20 years with Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft, where he managed the development of the Surface line of laptops and more recently, the release of the Windows 11 operating system, Panay announced his resignation.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella expressed gratitude to Panay for his “impact on our products, culture, company, and industry over the past two decades. I’m grateful for your leadership, support, and all you’ve done for Microsoft and our customers and partners.”
Microsoft has placed significant bets on the technology. The company has been incorporating generative AI into a wide range of its products, including cloud, search, and productivity software and services like its Office suite.
