YouTube Music is introducing a new “trim silence” button, a feature Google’s Podcasts app has offered since 2018.
First discovered in a March 2024 APK teardown, the option is now officially rolling out to users.
As the name implies, the feature allows YouTube Music users to automatically skip long, awkward pauses in podcasts, so you no longer have to sit through minutes of silence before the conversation resumes.
Last year, Google revealed plans to shut down its standalone Podcasts app and integrate it into YouTube Music.
However, the move quickly drew complaints from users who noted that the music platform lacked several valuable podcasting features.
The feature has appeared in the latest version of YouTube Music, though it remains unclear whether it’s being rolled out through a server-side change or a standard software update.
