Despite complying with the Brazilian Supreme Court’s demands, X remains offline in Brazil. According to Reuters, the delay is partly due to the company paying its fines to the wrong bank.
After being banned since late August, X appointed a legal representative in Brazil and removed accounts accused of spreading misinformation and hate speech.
The final step for X was to pay approximately $5 million in fines. In court filings on Friday, X stated it had made the payments and requested the restoration of its services. However, Justice Alexandre de Moraes indicated that the funds were sent to the incorrect bank, delaying any further action until the money is properly transferred. X insists that it followed the correct procedures regarding the fines.
The company initially resisted the court’s orders but has since shifted its approach, now actively seeking to resolve the situation with Brazilian authorities to restore access to its platform.
