The World Trade Organisation has on Tuesday announced the opening of applications into its 2024 Young Professionals Programme.
According to WTO, YPP “aims at providing young professionals with an opportunity to develop their skills and gain experience in the field of international trade.”
“Young Professionals Programme is a technical assistance programme overseen by the WTO’s Institute for Training and Technical Co-operation and funded by the Global Trust Fund, ” WTO.
Since its launch in 2016, a toyal of 89 professionals have taken part in the programme.
The professional training programmes is part of the WTO Secretariat’s efforts to increase diversity and broaden the members’ representation.
The Secretariat assigns the chosen young professionals to a specific department, based on the organization’s needs and the candidates’ interests.
During their one-year programme at the Secretariat, the candidates gain knowledge about the organization’s operations and participate in its activities.
According to World Trade Organisation, eligible candidates from certain countries, who are 32 years old or younger on 1 January 2023, are welcome to apply for the programme
Meeting the program’s other requirements is also necessary for candidates. The successful applicants will work at the WTO Secretariat for one year, commencing in January 2024.
Another criteria is that applicants must come from developing or least-developed countries and be members of the WTO.
The application form can be found on the WTO e-Recruitment, which must be completed by 13 April 2023.
Candidates from WTO member countries without any professional representation in the Secretariat are preferred.
