The former Minister of Finance, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, who worked under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted a position as an Alternate Executive Director at the World Bank.
On Monday, July 10, 2023, Mrs. Ahmed will begin serving as an alternate executive director at the World Bank’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
However, there have been several disputes regarding the previous minister of finance’s status as the legitimate contender for the new position.
According to a report citing a source in Washington, Mrs. Ahmed evaded the hiring process by nominating herself for the position.
Additionally, it was said that Mr. Buhari President Bola Tinubu did not approve of her appointment.
A federal government source, however, claimed Mrs. Ahmed was right during the appointment process in response to the allegation.
“She can’t nominate herself, it is impossible. President Buhari, prior to his departure, confirmed her authentic nomination from the Ministry of Finance.
“This kind of candidature is occurs; in the last days of the Jonathan government, a former director general of budget was nominated, and nobody raised a fuss.
“The former DG Budget was nominated as Executive Director, African Development Bank,” the source said.
He added that those who understand World Bank Executive Board issues and have helped in shaping World Bank decision-making from the viewpoint of Authorities/member countries in recent times.
