The board and the management of Wigwe University have announced the passing of its founder, Herbert Wigwe.

In a statement released earlier on Monday on LinkedIn, the tertiary institution with a heavy heart announces the passing of its founder.

“It is with heavy hearts that the Board of Trustees of Wigwe University announce the tragic passing of our Founder, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, who died alongside his wife, Mrs. Doreen Wigwe, and son, Chizi Wigwe and others on 9th Feburary 2021, in a helicopter accident in the United States of America”

The statement which was signed by the chairman of the board, Prof. Fabian Ajogwu extolled the legacies of Herbert Wigwe as a visionary and assured the students and the members of the public that the academic institution is committed to building, and developing world-class students, following the footsteps laid by Herbert Wigwe.

Wigwe University is an eponymous tertiary institution built by Herbert Wigwe, the late Access Bank Holdings CEO in his home state, Rivers State to provide quality and world-class education to brilliant indigent students who couldn’t afford education. The academic institution which opened its doors to 10,000 pioneer students in January 2024 is one of Herbert Wigwe’s many ways of giving back to society.

Condolences have continued to pour in from friends, well-wishers, and benefactors over the tragic passing of the astute bank chief.
