WhatsApp launches short video messages

Popular messaging platform, WhatsApp, has unveiled a new feature that allows users to record and share short videos lasting up to 60 seconds directly in chats.

According to WhatsApp, this update aims to revolutionize communication on the platform.

In a blog post, WhatsApp explained, “Video messages are a real-time way to respond to chats with whatever you want to say and show in 60 seconds. We think these will be a fun way to share moments with all the emotion that comes from video, whether it’s wishing someone a happy birthday, laughing at a joke, or bringing good news.”

The feature, protected by end-to-end encryption, is gradually rolling out to users, becoming available to all in the coming weeks. Sending a video message is as effortless as sending a voice message.

Users can easily switch to video mode, hold to record the video, and swipe up to lock and record hands-free. Videos will play automatically on mute when opened in a chat, but tapping on the video will enable sound.

This addition follows WhatsApp’s recent introduction of various new features, including automatic call silencing from unknown numbers, message editing within 15 minutes of sending, and plans to introduce usernames.

Additionally, the Meta-owned App has enhanced account security with added layers of privacy and security measures, such as alerts for suspicious account activity and verification checks for secure connections.

WhatsApp Business, catering to small-scale businesses, has also seen impressive growth, reaching 200 million monthly active users.
