Warner Bros. Discovery has disclosed on Thursday that the platform has 1.8 million streaming subscriptions across HBO, Discovery+, and its new integrated streaming service Max.
Customers with overlapping accounts (Max and Discovery+) likely got rid of extra subscriptions, which is why there was a reduction in subscribers. Analysts and WBD both foresaw streaming churn.
“The migration to Max has gone exceedingly well with the overwhelming majority of subscribers in the U.S. successfully transferred,” WBD CEO David Zaslav said.
On May 23, Max began rolling out to subscribers. According to J.B. Perrette, the global streaming president of WBD, 70% of current HBO Max subscribers switched to the streamer in the first week of its launch.
Perrette did add, though, that Discovery+ was losing subscribers during the conversation.
Additionally, the platform disclosed on Thursday that Max now supports livestreaming, meaning customers will soon be able to access live sports and news programmes.
WBD declined to provide more information, but promised to divulge which specific content in the near future.
