Walt Disney has faced a major data breach this summer, with leaked information revealing financial details, strategic plans, and sensitive personal data of staff and customers, according to a Wall Street Journal report on Thursday.
In August, Disney confirmed it was investigating the unauthorized release of over a terabyte of data from one of its communication systems. The leaked information includes passport numbers, visa details, addresses, and place of birth for staff working on its cruises. Additionally, a spreadsheet containing names, addresses, and phone numbers of Disney Cruise Line passengers was also exposed.
The breach also revealed detailed financial data, including revenue figures for Disney+ and ESPN+, park pricing offers, and what appears to be login credentials for some of Disney’s cloud infrastructure.
The hacking group NullBulge is reported to have published data from thousands of Disney’s Slack channels, which includes computer code and details about unreleased projects.
The leaked files encompass over 44 million messages from Disney’s Slack workplace communications tool, further exposing the breadth of the data compromised.
