A former SAP chief financial officer, Luka Mucic, has been appointed by Vodafone to the same position, effective September 1.
He will succeed Della Valle, who assumed the top position on a permanent basis in April.
As a positive first step for new CEO Margherita Della Valle, the firm also reported an acceleration in first-quarter top line growth on Monday, driven by strong demand in Britain and gains in Germany, Italy, and Spain.
As it reported a 3.7% increase for the group on Monday, she noted that service revenue had improved “across almost all of our markets”.
As broadband price increases somewhat offset the impact of customer losses over the past 18 months, the fall in Germany, Vodafone’s largest market, more than halved quarter over quarter to 1.3%, the firm said.
It becomes Della Valle’s responsibility to streamline the organisation and stop the downturn in several of its most important European markets, which have been adversely affected by severe competition.
