The United States has stated that its Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, February 17, 2025, in observance of Presidents’ Day.

This was disclosed by the U.S. Mission in Nigeria in a statement posted on its official X account on Sunday.

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria confirmed that normal operations will resume on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, February 17, 2025, in observance of Presidents’ Day. We will resume normal operations on Tuesday, February 18, 2025,” the statement read.

Presidents’ Day is a U.S. federal holiday observed annually on the third Monday of February.

Originally honoring George Washington’s birthday, Presidents’ Day has evolved to celebrate all U.S. presidents.

Established in 1879 as Washington’s Birthday, the holiday was moved to its current date in 1971 under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act to create more three-day weekends for workers.
