Twitter has announced the expansion of its creator monetization program to include a share of the ad revenue generated from ads appearing in replies to their posts.
This move aims to help users monetize their time on the platform and is set to roll out more broadly later this month.
“We’re rolling out the program more broadly later this month and all eligible creators will be able to apply,” confirmed Twitter.
Eligible creators include subscribers of Twitter Blue or verified organizations, those with over 5 million tweet impressions per month for the last three months, and creators who meet the human review for Creator Monetization Standards.
Twitter CEO, Elon Musk revealed that a total of $5 million will be paid out to qualified creators, representing the combined earnings from February onward.
Payments will be facilitated through the online payment platform Stripe.
Some creators have already shared their excitement about receiving their revenue shares.
Brian Krassenstein, with over 750,000 followers, tweeted about his payment and shared a screenshot.
Other creators such as @raptalksk and @bennyjohnson, with earnings of $2,236 and $9,546 respectively, have also received their payments.
With the launch of the Creator Ads Revenue Sharing Program, artists and influencers are expected to incentivize engagement and spark dialogue to increase their earnings.
As Twitter user, Farzad Mesbahi pointed out, “The more haters you have in your replies, the more money you’ll make on Twitter.” Elon Musk responded, “Poetic justice.”
It’s important to note that Twitter has guidelines in place for monetizing content.
Sexual content, pyramid schemes, get-rich-quick schemes, violence, criminal activity, gambling, drugs, alcohol, and monetization of copyrighted content that creators do not own are prohibited.
Twitter’s expansion of its creator monetization program with ad revenue sharing provides an opportunity for eligible users to further monetize their presence on the platform, while also establishing guidelines to maintain content integrity and user safety
