President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, pending confirmation by the Senate.
The announcement was made on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
He added that the nomination has been formally forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation in accordance with constitutional provisions.
The nomination comes after the resignation of former Minister Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Mr Tegbe, a native of Oyo State, is an experienced fiscal and economic reform specialist with more than 35 years in both the public and private sectors.
He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he spearheaded key initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance.
Throughout his career, he has provided advisory support to various government bodies and private sector entities on strategic reforms, regulatory development, and investment structuring.
He presently serves as Director-General and Global Liaison of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he coordinates efforts to enhance development cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.
The partnership also facilitates stakeholder engagement to drive economic and social progress in line with the goals of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation.
Mr Tegbe’s professional experience also spans the power sector, where he has played key roles in regulatory and institutional reforms involving agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
According to Onanuga, the President expects the minister-designate, if confirmed, to deploy his extensive expertise to advance critical reforms and enhance performance in Nigeria’s power sector.
