Tinubu hails Dangote investments for creating jobs, saving FX

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the Dangote Group for its investments in key sectors of the Nigerian economy, saying they have boosted local production, created jobs, reduced import dependence and helped conserve foreign exchange.

The President also noted that the conglomerate’s investments had strengthened Nigeria’s industrial capacity.

Tinubu made the remarks during a visit to the Dangote Group pavilion at the ongoing 32nd Nigeria Economic Summit in Abuja on Monday. He was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Tinubu commended the Group’s performance across its various business operations, stressing that private-sector investments were vital to expanding productive capacity, driving economic activities and advancing national development.

The Dangote Group operates across several sectors, including cement manufacturing, fertiliser production, sugar refining, salt processing and petroleum refining.

The investments promote local value addition, create jobs and strengthen domestic supply chains, while helping to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported goods.

Tinubu said his administration was creating an enabling environment for public- and private-sector investments to expand businesses and generate productive employment.

The Dangote Group is Nigeria’s second-largest employer of labour after the Federal Government.

The 2026 Nigeria Economic Summit, themed ‘Growth That Works: Delivering Jobs, Productivity and Shared Prosperity’, was officially opened by Tinubu, who defended the Federal Government’s ongoing economic reforms and stressed the need for industrial harmony and private-sector-led growth.

The summit brings together policymakers, business leaders, investors and other stakeholders to explore strategies for accelerating economic growth, boosting productivity, creating jobs and ensuring that more Nigerians benefit from economic expansion.

Tinubu’s commendation highlights the importance of sustained cooperation between the government and private sector in building a more productive, competitive and resilient Nigerian economy.

Among the Group’s investments is the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals complex in Lagos, which is expected to reshape Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector by expanding domestic refining capacity and reducing dependence on imported refined petroleum products.
