The Nasarawa State Government has partnered with the Nigeria Off-Grid Market Acceleration Program in order to ensure the swift development and implementation of the state’s energy projects and to advance its power and sustainability agenda, following President Bola Tinubu’s signing of the Electricity Act, 2023 into law.

The PUNCH reported that the collaboration, according to the Managing Director of the state’s Investment and Development Agency, Ibrahim Abdullahi, is a step towards realizing Nasarawa State’s goal of ranking among the top three most competitive economies in Nigeria. Abdullahi made this statement to journalists on Friday while speaking with them in the state capital of Lafia.

He outlined how the agency, with the Nasarawa Electricity Power Agency serving as the technical lead, carried out the cooperation, which was formalized on Thursday with the state government and NOMAP signing a Memorandum of Understanding.

Ibrahim went on to say that the state’s offer would be strengthened even more with NOMAP’s assistance, which would also enhance the business climate, reassure potential investors, and provide real advantages to rural populations.

“Our state’s off-grid energy environment will be improved, investment will be drawn in, and sustainable growth will be encouraged through our partnership with NOMAP.

Building capacity for pertinent state government entities, assisting in the execution of the Nasarawa off-grid energy strategy, and supporting the Nasarawa State Government in developing the policy, and facilitate further private sector and development partner support for off-grid clean energy projects in the state.

“We are enthusiastic about the project’s potential and encourage everyone involved in the electricity value chain to get ready and participate,” he continued.

The main objective of NOMAP, which is funded by the Shell Foundation, UKaid, and USAID, is to remove the obstacles preventing the nation’s off-grid energy industry from expanding.

Additionally, it aims to encourage the development of advantageous conditions for renewable energy sources like off-grid solar power, particularly in rural areas.
