President Bola Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant-General of the Federation, effective March 7, 2025.
His appointment follows a rigorous selection process, and he will replace Oluwatoyin Madehin, who is set to retire.
This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Onanuga said Ogunjimi’s appointment will take effect on March 7 — the same day incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, will retire.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation after a rigorous selection process,” the statement reads.
“His appointment, approved today, takes effect from 7th March 2025, the same day the incumbent Oluwatoyin Madehin will retire.
“Ogunjimi, 57, was first named as Madehin’s successor last December,” the statement read.
Accorfing to the statement, a selection committee chose him through a competitive, rigorous, and merit-based process involving Federal Civil Service Directors of Accounts.
The process had three stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews.
The selection process underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service positions.
Ogunjimi earned a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1990 and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos.
He holds fellowship status with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and encourages him to serve Nigeria with integrity, professionalism, and dedication.
