Tech companies TikTok, Snapchat, and Stability AI have committed to collaborating to combat artificial intelligence-generated images of child sex abuse.
In the lead-up to a worldwide summit on AI safety that the UK is hosting this week, Britain unveiled the joint declaration on Monday at an event. The statement included the governments of the United States, Germany, and Australia among its 27 signatories.
“We resolve to sustain the dialogue and technical innovation around tackling child sexual abuse in the age of AI,” the statement read.
“We resolve to work together to ensure that we utilise responsible AI for tackling the threat of child sexual abuse and commit to continue to work collaboratively to ensure the risks posed by AI to tackling child sexual abuse do not become insurmountable.”
“It is essential, now, we set an example and stamp out the abuse of this emerging technology before it has a chance to fully take root,” IWF chief executive Susie Hargreaves said.
Britain referenced data from the Internet Watch Foundation demonstrating that users had shared around 3,000 photographs of artificial intelligence-generated child sexual assault content in one dark web forum.
