Spotify will update its app on Apple devices in the European Union starting Wednesday to include pricing details for its various plans and services.
This move comes more than three months after Apple initially rejected Spotify’s request due to non-compliance with its Music Streaming Services Entitlement.
The update will enable Spotify to display pricing information directly within its iOS app. However, Spotify has opted not to include an external link for purchases, aiming to avoid the commission fees Apple charges on transactions made outside its ecosystem.
In response, Spotify stated, “While this update is a step forward, it represents only a small part of the broader effort to meet the expectations of iPhone users for basic app functionalities.”
Apple’s new terms, introduced earlier this year, were designed to facilitate communication about alternative payment methods for music streaming apps in the European Economic Area.
This change followed a substantial fine of 1.84 billion euros ($2 billion) imposed by Brussels in March for restricting competition through App Store practices.
Spotify’s compliance with these terms marks a significant development in the ongoing dialogue between the tech giants regarding app store regulations and payment practices.
