Spotify and Google Cloud extended their collaboration on Thursday with the use of large language models in order to provide personalised playlists.
“The evolution of our technology has been matched by Google Cloud’s commitment to building the best possible platform for our products to run on and driving further innovation with the emerging capabilities of generative AI,” Spotify’s chief product and technology officer, Gustav Söderström said.
With the partnership, the two companies can now identify a user’s listening habits across podcasts and audiobooks.
Large amounts of data are used to train artificial intelligence-powered LLMs, like Google Bard and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, to produce text and other content, and now, the Swedish company wants to employ LLMs to reproduce it in all of its non-music content, including audiobooks and podcasts.
With the expanded Google partnership, Spotify is also exploring the use of LLMs to provide a safer listening experience and identify potentially harmful content.
